The mens State League 1 team are playing a practice game against Altona at Altona on Thursday night (April 1st) at 7pm. If you would like to take in a game of hockey then come along and support the team as it prepares for season 2010.

Congratulations to Parry Building Co., who was the first ticket drawn (Number 3). They have elected to name the Women’s SL 1 shirt. Second ticket drawn out was ticket number 27, held by Rothfield Print Management. They will be naming the SL1 Men’s shirt.

Many thanks to those companies and families who purchased tickets in the draw. Your support of the Waverley Hockey Club is greatly appreciated.

All U13 and U15 Boys and Girls are invited to trial for Eastern Hotshots. Eastern Hotshots is a zoned development training squad made up of Junior players from Camberwell, Knox and Waverley Hockey Clubs. The training culminates in the State Championships held in July 2010. From these Championships, an U13 & U15 Boys and Girls State side is selected.

We are looking to find  a member who has or knows of someone with MYOB experience, to assist Graham and Fiona with data entry. With the large numbers of members we now have, the task is becoming too great for just two people to enter the data and produce invoices.

Sold and unsold tickets must be returned to Don Larter no later than Thursday night at training. Draw is on Friday night at the rooms, so come down at 7.30 to the rooms to witness the draw and see whose company will be displayed on our SL playing shirts in 2010. There are a few left to be sold, so if you know of someone or a company who would like to purchase a ticket, please call Don Larter on 0419304534 or Ian Hocking on 0417 160 297.

All players interested in playing PD and Metro 4 North need to be at Waverley on Saturday March 27 ,2010 at 9 am for trial games

The women’s squad enjoyed their first practice match on Sunday morning against Southern United. It was a good turn out with 16 players available for the game.

We have a new look squad this year with past premiership players returning from interstate, overseas and having babies.

Everyone played their part in the win on the weekend, it was a good first hit-out. We now have a string of practice games to follow each weekend. Which means we marked the end of our Saturday morning running sessions with Kanishka. I think I can say on behalf of everyone, I am glad to see the back of burpees.

As we farewell Kanishka, we welcome our new coach, Andrew Aldons. Andrew was appointed by the club to coach SL1 at the end of February. He will be arriving here from QLD to coach our games this coming weekend, before becoming a permanent fixture at training after Easter.

On behalf of the squad special thanks to Toni, Renee and Danita for taking training sessions and the game on the weekend.

In the clean out of the club, we no longer have a need for the boardroom table down at the club. So we are selling it!

Have your say as to what events Waverley HC should run for 2010!

The 2010 season now draws closer and all our Junior teams will have now commenced training as of this week. The Junior Committee is now in the process of finalising numbers for teams and age groups. We will again have an increase in players and teams for this year from the previous year. In the interest of ensuring that all junior players at Waverley have the opportunity to get plenty of game time on the pitch, that we need to place restriction on player numbers.

We are now currently fully subscribed to our U15 Boy’s teams so we are unable accept anymore registrations in this age group.

We have only 2 or 3 places left in U11 Mixed, U13 Boy’s & U15 Girl’s teams, so anyone who wishes to play in these age groups should register straight away or will be in jeopardy of missing out.

Also with the high number of boys who have registered for U13 teams, we are currently unable to fulfill any requests for U13 girls to play in mixed teams as well. If we were to do this it would have to be at the expense of keeping an U13 boy from playing this year.
