Hedley Hull Field

Posted November 24th 2011 by Travis Brooks No Comments
Hedley

At the Waverley Hockey Club AGM on November 7, it was announced that an application had been made to the City of Monash to name the hockey ground at Ashwood Reserve, HEDLEY HULL FIELD in recognition of Hedley’s efforts in promoting and growing both the sport of hockey and the Waverley Hockey Club.

Last night the Monash Councillors unanimously supported our application and has approved the naming we proposed. All hockey matches played at Ashwood Reserve will now be played on the HEDLEY HULL FIELD.

Hedley Hull’s involvement with the sport, with particular emphasis on nurturing new umpires, is impressive

•           Played between 1941 – 1970

•           Awarded A level umpiring badge in 1949

•           Awarded Australian II badge for services to Hockey

•           Secretary of the Victorian Hockey Umpires Association

•           Secretary of the Appointments and Examination Committee

•           1987 formed the Junior Umpire Development Committee (JUDC).

•           Founding member of the Waverley Hockey Club

•           Committee member of the Waverley Hockey Club

•           Life Member of the VUHA

•           Life Member of the Waverley Hockey Club

•           Life Member of the VJHA

•           Life Member Hockey Victoria

It is people like Hedley who have helped make the sport and the club what it is today

We are going blue !!

Posted October 27th 2011 by The Pres 2 Comments

Work starts this month on the resurfacing of the ground and the works are scheduled to be finished before Christmas.

In 2012 we will be playing on a blue field.

The decision to install a blue surface (with a terracotta surround) was not taken lightly and the evaluation process for the preferred surface was extremely thorough. We believe blue will provide enormous marketing opportunity not only to the Waverley Hockey Club but to the overall development and promotion of hockey in Victoria

It will be the second blue surface to be installed in Australia the first being in Western Australia. Blue surfaces are being installed in a number of countries, and the 2012 London Olympics will be played on a blue field.

We are stepping away from the norm, it will be something different, it will receive a lot of comment and it will attract many to come and have a look. Blue pitches are being installed in a number of countries and we do believe the time is right to move with the trend. Blue surfaces are used in sport for contrast and visibility especially under artificial light.

Exciting times ahead.
