Working Bee this Sunday

Posted March 11th 2010 by Travis Brooks No Comments

The season is fasting approaching and we need your help before it all gets underway. Please read below look forward to seeing you there chipping in and giving us a hand.

WHAT: Working Bee

WHY: To get the club in tip top shape for the coming season. It’s going to be a big year for the club and we want to have the clubhouse ready to go.

WHEN: Sunday 14th March at 10am.

WHAT TO DO NOW: Please stick this date in your calendar and come along on the day. Bring a shovel, some gloves, gear for cleaning the rooms (scrubbing brushes, brooms, mops, dusters, etc) and the out doors (shovels, wheel barrow, hammer, nails, screws, screw drivers, etc).

Thanks

Waverley House Committee

The house committee is responsible for the facilities around the club, from the ground to the clubhouse and is always looking for members to chip in and give a hand. It’s not a big time committment and the effort is rewarding to see go around the club. Things like the projector and speakers installed as well as the framing of our club legends shirts are just a couple of things we have got going.  Want to get involved? Please email Beth Merkus(bethmerkus@bigpond.com) or Travis Brooks (tnbrooks@gmail.com) for more details.

Did You Know? … Minkey is suitable for children of ALL ages who have never played or have limited hockey experience.

Posted March 5th 2010 by Nikki Gerling No Comments

Minkey aims to introduce children of all ages to the game of hockey.

The programme is designed to introduce children to the skills involved in field hockey in a safe, non-competitive atmosphere with the emphasis on involvement and fun. The children progress through skill levels gaining awards / certificates as they progress.  The program runs on smaller sized field (than competition hockey) and consists of skill based activities and a simplified game.

Waverley Indoor Premiers

Posted March 2nd 2010 by Rhys Eddy 1 Comment

On behalf of James Knee, Freddy Litzinger, Simon Preston, Steven Jarvis, Mat Steffans, Daniel Brennan, Tim Wishusen, Drew Ashton, & Tom Scott in goals thanks to all those Waverley persons from the Junior and Senior sections that made the journey out to Monash support us 8.30PM on a Sunday evening. It was really great to match the laudable support TEM also had. I know there would have been even more support if it had not clashed with the preseason camp.Waverley Indoor Team

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank our Major Sponsor “The Skin Institute” & Mr Keith Mutimer – http://www.theskininstitute.com.au/index.htm

The score was 4-3 and was a tightly fought Waverley win against a young, enthusiastic & skilful TEM team coached by Steve Willer and managed by Craig Seccul who were worthy opponents.

It was a game of contrasting styles with Waverley coming out on top after finishing top of the table after the round games with each team having a win against each other during the season.

Waverley’s German import Freddy Litzinger scored 2 goals including one beautiful goal from a flick roofed German style high in the right hand corner of the net and a great indoor deflection goal. Every reliable Daniel Brennan playing in the centre scored two goals from corners both low along the deck.

It was a great team effort but the defence of Simon Preston, Steve Jarvis with Tom Scott in goals performance with standing attacking move after attacking move that TEM constantly mounted was a standout. Daniel Brennan and Tim Wishusen’s efforts in midfield was also note worthy. As with all team efforts strong performances from “Veteran” Drew Ashton and our club junior champs James Knee & Mat Steffans signals the future is looking strong for future performances of Waverley Indoor hockey.

All us Indoor boys hope that that is ANOTHER positive in the quest for Waverley to dominate hockey at all levels in 2010.

Daniel Brennan and I are very interested in speaking to people during the year about their interest in playing, coaching and managing Indoor for both Mens / Womens – Senior and Juniors.

We want to build on this great Indoor year we have had.

John – “Hoops”
