Key Facts by Age Group
Timing
Please be at all games half an hour before playing time for warm up. If you cannot make a game please let your team manager know as soon as possible so alternative arrangement can be made. Under 9’s run for 25 minute halves while all other age groups are 30 minute halves, with 5 minute break between halves.
Under 9 Mixed
The Under 9 competition is slightly different from all the other grades. The differences are as follows:
- It is played on a half field with seven players per side (no goalie),
- Games are of two 25 minute halves with a five minute half time break,
- The coach is allowed on the field during play but not in the circles,
- There are no finals matches and no awards (all players receive a “club medal”)
Gender: All Under 9 teams are mixed

Games: Play Saturday morning (generally 9.45 or 10.55am slot)
Grading: There is no grading in the Under 9 competition; instead all teams play in their local district to minimize travel for young players. Waverley is in the East district with the home ground being either Huntingtower or Waverley’s Ashwood ground. Please advise your Year Level co-ordinator during pre season of any friendships that you would like to be taken into consideration in team selection decisions.
Under 11 Mixed
Under 11 play on a full field for two 30 minute halves, with 11 players per side, including a goalie. The coach is allowed on the field during play but not in the circles,
Gender: All Under 11 teams are mixed
Training: refer Training page
Games: Play Saturday morning (generally 8.35, 9.45, 10.55am slots)
Grading: Pennant and Shield teams. Players will be allocated to a team on the basis of the best fit for their skill level. Friendships are also taken into account but cannot be guaranteed. Please advise your Year Level co-ordinator during pre season of any friendships that you would like to be taken into consideration.
Under 13, 15, 17 Girls
Where a girls team exists it the Waverley Hockey Club policy that girls will play in the girls team rather than the mixed boys competition, but occasionally circumstances may make it more appropriate for a girl to play in a mixed team. Such a decision would be made on an individual basis after discussion with the player and parents.
Under 13 / 15 / 17 play on a full field for two 30 minute halves, with 11 players per side, including a goalie. At Under 13 girls level the coach is still allowed on the field, but this ceases at Under 15 level.
Gender: Split, Girl and Boy teams.

Games: Play Friday nights (Under 13 generally 5.55, 7.05pm Under 15 generally 7.05, 8.15, Under 17 8.15, 9.25 slots)
