Waverley Hockey Club

Representative Teams

Junior State Championships (via Hotshots)

Waverley Hockey club participates in the junior state championships through the Hotshots teams (Regional Selection teams). The competition for under 13’s and under 15’s is generally run in the July school holidays, and the under 17’s is generally run in September / October. The process for participating is registering your interest through Hockey Victoria when nominations are requested. Then there is a selection process over a couple of weeks, and once the teams are selected there are weekly training sessions for those selected before the completion starts.

From the junior state competition in July / October  a selection of players are invited to try out for the state teams. There is a selection process over a couple of weeks and then the teams are selected. The teams then train on a weekly basis until the National competition which is run usually in October with it changing between states each year. Those who try out for the state teams but are unsuccessful are invited to participate in the development squad held in October.

Schools Hockey state teams

The Schools team selection is via your school (not Waverley hockey club) so please discuss directly with your Sports / PE teacher.

Both Primary and Secondary schools offer the opportunity to try out for the Victorian state school teams. The process is handled through the school and not something either Hockey Victoria or Waverley Hockey club participates in. However it is another opportunity for your child to participate and be involved with hockey.

Primary Schools

The process is to complete a form from the School Sports Victoria website and take to your school to have the principle sign and send to School Sports Victoria. Trial dates are published on the website. The selection process is regional trials then two state trials if your child is selected to try out at the state level. Once teams are selected there are weekly training sessions before the competition which is usually in early August.

Secondary Schools

The process for secondary schools is similar to the above. Children born in the year 1995 are able to tryout for the team in 2011. Please visit the school sports website for more details.
