We came out playing hard right from the start, earning our first short corner about 30 seconds into the game and scoring off it, serving up a somewhat unexpected surprise to Southern. Throughout the tough game Waverley ‘keeper Jess Cafarella kept out several penetrations by the opposition. The home side had a lot of great play holding Southern to 1-1 at the half time break. The second half continued in the same vein; a match that was hard fought by both teams. Unfortunately, Southern scored three further goals to bring the result to 1 – 4 by the end of play. Starting the game with just enough to field a team, packed with injuries and sickness, the girls played a fantastic game. During the second half our health started to get to us and the goals started to come in against us. Saves on the goal line by the full and half backs helped to keep the score down. The attackers did a fantastic job causing the Altona defence to put in a lot of unexpected efforts. We came away with a 4-0 loss but the score didn’t reflect the game at all. The team continues to improve each week, playing extremely well as a team. Well done to the ‘fill ins’ who fitted in well, it was great to have you!
