The panthers played host to captain Daniel DOBBINS’s ex team in what was expected to be a tough game.
The start was just that. Box Hill put all the pressure on us and frazzled us to the point we were making uncharacteristic mistakes and poor decisions.
After 15 minutes Waverley settled down and played the game the way we know we can. Todd COPE and Rob JARVIS were controlling the game from the defensive end and distributing the ball well to the half line.
The team suffered a loss with veteran Warren MOORE making a run down the right hand side re-injured a calf muscle which will see out for a couple of weeks.
I actually can’t remember how they were scored but David HOWSON, Greg STRYDOM and the departing Tim HUGUENIN scored a goal a piece before the end of the first half.
A positive talk at half time re-empathised the game plan which allowed the team to play the second half with more poise and patience. But unfortunately it didn’t help us as we dominated the game and the possession but were not able to turn any of that into goals or for that matter shots on goal. It always seemed the last pass was off or a basic skill error let us down.
Goalie Deon STERGIOU was playing a fine match and the few shots that Box Hill had were saved in fine form.
It wasn’t til the end of the match that DOBBINS was able to put away a short corner variation to make the final score 4-0.
A great team effort by all. Next week a big game against 2nd place Doncaster.
(I hope spell check worked)

And the juggernaut rolls on. Nice to see Dobbins scoring against his old side!
