How good was that weekend !!

What a magnificent finale’ to the season with a great weekend of success, being capped off with the incredible SL1 men’s win.  We welcome a brief description from representatives of all teams men, women and juniors that played in grand finals over the weekend so those who did not see the matches, can be provided with a picture of your matches, whether you won or lost. I am sure the SL1 men when they recover from a day or two celebration  will write a report that will detail their big day.

The season statistics give a great insight into the success we have had this year

We entered 35 teams in competition.

Those teams participated in 653 games.

14 teams made it into the finals. (U9 teams do not have finals)

We won 7 grand finals on the weekend including the jewel in the crown of Victorian Hockey. The State League 1 Men’s Trophy. This follows up from their win in 2010 and now the club has won  5 out of the past 9 SL 1 Grand Finals.

The club was awarded on the weekend, the club with the best underage girls section.

Well done to all of the players, coaches, team managers, supporters, partners, parents for getting the players to matches during the year. You all should be proud of your success this year.

Vale Joan Trewin

Posted August 30th 2011 by The Pres No Comments

It is with great sadness that the club announces the passing of club stalwart Mrs Joan Trewin. The Waverley Hockey Club, Executive Committee, players, supporters and friends extend their heartfelt condolences to Robert, Merryn, Don and Ken for the passing of their much loved mother Joan.

Joan, the wife of founding member and past President, the late Bob Trewin, was a dedicated supporter and tireless worker around the club for over 30 years. The Waverley Hockey Club owes Joan a debt of gratitude for her tireless contribution to social and fundraising activities at the club, without which we would not have the magnificent facilities we all enjoy today.

Joan undertook all manner of tasks from running the canteen, organizing car rallies, progressive dinners, ordering uniforms, presentation nights and raffles. From a personal point of view, Joan was an important mentor and inspiration to this new club member in the early seventies. In Joan’s deeds we saw that the measure of a strong club not only rests with the elite teams but also in contributions of the remaining players and those behind the scenes in supporting roles.

The passing of Joan and Bob over recent years is one more link to the foundation of the club that should be forever remembered.
