Waverley Hockey Club

Reunion Match

Posted October 31, 2008 at 8:39 am by Rhys Eddy

One of the intense rivalries in the 1980’s was between Waverley & Camberwell hence the Bert Cup Batch being played for each year during the home & away season. Unfortunately Wayne Thornton the son of Keith Thornton, who was involved in the development of the Cup matches, is gravely ill.

Wayne has asked that he would like a reunion game of the 1984 grand final to be played to recognize both clubs’ involvement in his life. The game is to take place on Sunday November 9 at Camberwell at 3.30pm. Organization is well advanced and a BBQ will be held after the game. As mark of respect to Wayne, Waverley is involved in assisting with the day.

Craig Fairbrother and John Mowett have been pursuing past players and have tracked many down, who have indicated they will attend and be involved on the day. If you know of players of this era who have not been contacted, advise them of the day.
