SL1 Vs. Hawthorn [Rd 4]

Waverley left Hawthorn without a point on Saturday in disappointing fashion.
Coach Brett Thompson was happy with how the Panther’s played yet it was the same old story with Waverley not finishing its numerous opportunities while Hawthorn applied scoreboard pressure by scoring from their extremely limited shots.
Shot count saw 8 Waverley corners go begging and copious field shots swatted away by Hawthorn’s keeper. On the other hand, Hawthorn could only muster 3 short corners which were meticulously placed in all corners of the goal by the Hawthorn hitter and 1 field shot aptly saved by Tommy Scott.
A last second shot from Timmy Wisch rocketed into the net to draw the game at 3-3 only to be disallowed by the umpire as it was “after time”.
The Panthers need to find some consistency and spark to lift them for each and every game from now on.
On a brighter note, Waverley celebrated its 50th function at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club on Saturday. The night was a huge success with an overwhelming number of people in attendance enjoying the history of the Panthers. Congratulations must go to all those involved in the nights success, this includes the organising committee, especially Brian & Bronwyn Maddock for their tireless effort. It was an outstanding night and it was great to see founding members Hedley Hull, Les Large, Kingsley Hull and Arthur Tuckett in those bright blue smocks – We hope to see them around the club as often as possible.
The Panther’s will be looking to win strongly this week against the newly promoted and much improved Southern United on Sunday 2:15 pm at the State Hockey Centre (S-2). As always support from club members is much appreciated.
