What would you want ?
Posted July 31, 2009 at 2:31 pm by The PresIn a perfect world, how would you want the draw done for all grades Men, Women, Juniors and Veterans for the Winter competition?
What is your preferred day, preferred playing time, should some grades be only played on certain days ?
Are there some days and times you think games should not be played ?
Would you come and watch State League 1 gamesĀ if they were always on a Saturday?
How would you define a club day ?
What would you like to see on a club day ?

Each SeniorTeam/Division should always play on the same day of the weekend.
For example; all the State League and Pennant games on a Saturday, with metro games on a Sunday, or vice versa.
If Hockey Victoria can do this with Junior Grades (i.e 23 divisions play on Friday nights, and there are 24 men’s and women’s metro divisions, and about 20 pennant/SL divisions), then there is no reason why they cannot for seniors, and this would make it a lot easier for both players who work part/cull time on weekends, and also help to allow people who also play another sport on the weekend.
I know from experience lots of people don’t play hockey because it can be at any time literally on the weekend, whereas with footy etc it is generally confined to one particular afternono each week, and is easier to organise around.
Club days are great, having as many teams able to play at the club on the day is paramount to its success. I think to make them a true ‘Club’ day we need to get involvement from all parts of the club (Juniors, Mens and Womens Units). Maybe the entertainment/functions that are put on at the club for the night session need to have a more family focus? Yet still allow those who wish to have a relaxing beer after the game to do so. Things such as guest speaker/s, trivia nights, video nights, etc that are family friendly, would probably maximise the success of these events.
There is a similar discussion in The Hockey Forums at the moment – personally it would be good to have a set day for particulars teams throughout the season as it would give consistency for the players and people who come down to watch (like footy) but on the flip side it sort of segregates the club teams from seeing and supporting each other.
For the Club Days its great to see all the juniors around watching having fun at the club. It is tough for parents these days to bring them down just to watch a game so maybe each Club Day we can organise a special clinic in the morning taken by the all the top players – During the day we have some other family friendly event organised.
That way the kids are taken off the parents hands for the day and they get some great coaching at the same time. The juniors can then stick around to watch the senior games which helps that division between seniors and juniors to reduce as players get to know each other.
Just thoughts….
