Once again the Panthers annual Senior Presentation Night is fast approaching and is shaping up to be a memorable night for all.

The WHC has had yet another successful year on and off the field throughout the 2010 period – Especially with the double header wins of our elite SL1 Men and Women teams, so let’s see season 2010 out with a bang.

Seats and reserved tables are filling up fast so gather your teammates and get involved.

Where: Manningham Hotel (Bullen)
When: 29th October, 7:00pm-12:00am
Dress: After 5 (cocktail)

Waverley Club Day!

The annual Waverley Hockey Club $1000 Club Day is upon us once again and is shaping up to be a great day around the club. WHC looks forward to playing five exciting games against Doncaster HC, hosting a luncheon for our current sponsors as well as socialising with a number of council members: local, state and federal.

WHEN – Saturday 31st July from 11PM.

TICKETS – $30 ticket for entry into the $1000 draw, two drinks of your choice and a sausage.

TARGET 1000 – Let’s aim for 1000 people to come through those gates on Saturday to show the proud and dominant force that Waverley HC is.

The day kicks off strongly with our two impressive under 9’s teams taking the field against Doncaster’s best under 9’s. The Under 9 Panthers will be looking to cement their 1st and 2nd places on the ladder – The next generation look strong! The club encourages parents and their kids to stay on for the day – We are supplying two jumping castles and have a Cub Card available for purchase on the day.

Cub Cards – $5 will get the kids one soft drink, a sausage and unlimited time on our two jumping castles.

Following will be an 120 strong minkey brigade taking the field to showcase the future of the club. Club members from State League 1, Pennant A and B will be down to help out coaching the minkeys program from 10:30am. Doncaster minkeys are also making the trek to Waverley HC to join in the fun. Again the club encourages the minkeys to stick around and to make use of the Cub Card!

WHC will welcome sponsors, supporters and council members at 12:00 noon to the club for a great day of socialising, food and hockey!

The third placed Pennant A Men will be looking for a win against the fourth placed Doncaster at 12:30pm – A win could potentially boost the team to first place!

2:00pm will showcase the clubs best Men’s talent with the State League 1 taking the field against Doncaster. The boy’s are coming off a strong win against Greensborough at home. They will ensure a fast paced, skillful and exciting game for the the home crowd to enjoy.

3:00pm Will see the $1000 draw begin, make sure you have tickets (ONLY $30!).

3:30pm the third placed Women’s Pennant A team will take on second placed Doncaster in what should be a well fought match to cement a finals spot!

5:00pm will showcase the final match of the day with the Pennant D Women looking to knock off a lowly PEGS to ensure a finals berth coming into the business end of the season.

Remember to show your support by getting down for the day to ensure we reach TARGET 1000.

Preseason Training Begins!

Under the guidance of new coach Zac Hawes, the Waverley Men’s Hockey Club have been hard at it starting their preparations for season 2010!

Since taking over the reigns of the Men’s club, Zac has been mapping out a fitness program that will see the entire club, from State League down to the Metro teams, in tip-top conditioning come season 2010.

From the Waverley Hockey Club to the Shrine in the city, the numerous locations of the sessions have kept a freshness about the sessions as well as adding in different ‘terrain’ challenges that the boys have to conquer in order to complete the sessions.

Whilst the sessions have been physically and mentally challenging, it has been fantastic to see the numbers that have been consistently rolling up each week and the enthusiasm that each individual brings to training. Each session has seen every team throughout the club represented which has been great for building camaraderie throughout the unit, something that we’ve let slip over the past few years. The way the entire group is pushing each other to get through the ‘tough’ parts of the session has been great to see. The high 5’s and pats on the back irrespective of who you are and what grade you’re playing has seen everyone come together as one.

With a couple of weeks leading up to Christmas the boys are keen to continue finish the year on a good note, pushing themselves to the limit.

If you want to come down to any session, everyone is welcome irrespective of your ability. Each session is designed to challenge you at the level that you are currently at irrespective if it is your first or 10th session, all welcome. With only one round left in the regular season before the finals fever starts, you have to wonder where has the year gone?

The Waverley Hockey Club, in it’s 50th Year Celebrations, would like to extend and invitation to all past, present and future members for the annual Senior Presentation night.

The details are as follows:

When: Friday 30th October, 7pm
Where: Merrimu Receptions – 1300 Dandenong Road, Clayton.
Why: A great night of entertainment at the end of the season to celebrate the clubs achievements.

Canteen Roster – From now!

Please find below the Canteen Roster for the remainder of Season 2009. The Roster has been drawn up on a ‘convenience’ basis, ie. you play then stick around afterwards to help out. At least 2 people from each team are required, 1 person to man the bar and the other the canteen.

Only teams are stated for specific times, its up to each team to generate a roster around these times. Thanks in advance for helping out around the club. It’s not a huge commitment but one that is needed to ensure the club has success off the field as well as on.

Hey all,

We hope you are enjoying the new website and its features. Over the coming weeks we will be adding further improvements as well as properly filling out some of the missing content. Until then please bookmark the site and make sure you check back daily for all Waverley HC updates plus use the MyWHC pages to check team news and fixtures.

We are also looking for representatives within the club to make match reports on their teams performance each round. We a hoping to have weekly updates from a variety of teams in the Men’s, Women’s and Juniors to help keep the whole club up-to-date on your teams performance.

To register for the 2009 season do the following:

Download and print a registration form or collect one from the clubrooms

Downloads are accessed through the mens, womens sections of the web.

Fill out the form with your details. A registration form must accompany your payment. If paying by direct debit mail a copy to the club.

Make payment via Direct Debit to Waverley Hockey Club, Cash, Cheque or EFTPOS

Training for season 2009

Men’s training times for 2009 are as follows:

SL1, PA and PB – Tuesday 8:30 to 9:30, Thursday – 7:15 – 8:30

PB players are expected to train twice a week.

PE and metro – Wednesday 7:20 – 8:30

PE players must train to be selected in PE. PE and metro will train as a group for the next couple of weeks before breaking into teams.

Remember, for all grades, attendance at training will be taken into account at the selection table.

Senior Registration Night

All senior players are to attend the clubrooms on Thursday March 17 between 7.00 pm and 9.00pm for registration and payment of fees. The 2009 fee schedule is on the registration form. Payment on the night can be by EFTPOS, Cheque or Cash. Registration forms are available on the web, and copies will be available at the rooms. A free BBQ will be running on the night and you will get 2 free drinks if your fees are paid in full on the night. If you are unable to attend then please download a form, fill in the details and and post with your payment to:

LIVE BAND!!!! The Thirds Place – August 2nd

The Thirds Place is proud to present members of the cover band “Men of Liesure” playing in the clubrooms on the big day at 2pm, August 2nd.

A one hour set containing all your fav tunes and they will take some requests. Get on down to see the band and stay on to watch the SL1 women just after 3pm.

In ground carparking available on the day for just $5 per car – park at own risk.

Due to overwhelming demand the famous “Thirds Place” is back. The big day is Saturday 2nd of August, with a host of Waverley home games on all day, including SL1 Women.

Pennant B and Metro practice games this week at Huntingtower School. St.Bedes SL4 vs Waverley Pennant B, followed by St.Bedes Metro1 vs Waverley Metro .

Huntingtower is in Waimarie Dve, Mt.Waverley at the Wills ave end.

Pennant B game start at 1.45pm, Metro game start at 3pm.

Bring both blue and white shirts, and be there 45 minutes before the start of your game.

Hopefully a better run than we had last week….

Pen B moved another step closer to avoiding the dreaded “R” on Saturday when they took on Altona.

Last time we met, Altona wiped us off the park 5-0 but we went into this game with a new found confidence and will to win. Talk before the game was making sure Disco McLean took the three votes and he did not disapoint with a non stop effort full off braunn and brilliance at center half. Ben DeZoete also had a ripper, nulifying Altona’s dominante right inner who had no influence on the game.

The only thing we couldn’t do was slot a goal, but neaither could they. Altona were down to 10 men for the last five minutes and we had some chances but it come off for us.

We look forward to Kew this week whom we match up well against so it should be a ripping match.

Can Pennant B stave off the dreaded “R”?

Pennant B came out fighting and inflicted Mayhem on top four side Essendon on Sunday night. Looking for only our second win of the season, there was a new found desperation amongst the group.

Despite losing Brett Thompson early, attack was the only form of defence. With the Dutchman back in drag form we went to the break 2-0 up. After half time we did not let up and delighted the large crowd with four more goals to seal the game 6-1.

Goals – Rudi 4, Ben DeZoete 1, Jason Lyon 1.

Best – Stu McLean, Mark Hocking, Rudi Lameijn
