Hockey Victoria is looking for help to further promote and develop the game of indoor hockey by providing an indoor competition that is attractive and accessible to as many players as possible. We would like to be able to offer all affiliates an indoor competition that will encourage as many players as possible to participate.

Your feedback is important in helping us to plan a competition that will make this possible. The information that is submitted by you will be considered by the Indoor Sub Committee. If you are interested in joining the sub committee please look on the HV website.

With this in mind a survey has been created. HV asks that all clubs and the previous indoor season’s team contacts complete the attached survey and return to HV by June 30th (end of the month). It is attached as both a word document and a pdf document, so that it can be completed and sent back via return email if desired.

Indoor hockey is a fast paced game that hones the basic skills needed in outdoor. It can be enjoyed all year round by all ages and all skill levels.

FYI – In case you have missed it, there is an article on the HV website advising that an Indoor Sub Committee is currently being formed. HV is seeking expressions of interest form all interested persons.

We are also looking for representatives within the club to make match reports on their teams performance each round. We a hoping to have weekly updates from a variety of teams in the Men’s, Women’s and Juniors to help keep the whole club up-to-date on your teams performance.

The Waverley Dream Team continued its summer season dream run with a 6-0 trouncing of the Warriors on Monday to take the Monash Mixed summer hockey flag.

The first half saw plenty of run and swift passing which saw 4 goals slotted in no time – This left the warriors in shambles and on the back foot for the rest of the game.

Second half proved to be much more of a contest with the Warriors being able to have a few shots on goal – However, The Dream Team responded by slotting 2 more taking the tally to the final score of 6-0.

Hard work and wizardry by Tim Wish saw him end with a hat-trick to really complete the dream.

Summer Stix is for current Juniors to play hockey during the “off” season and a chance for less experienced players or children who would like to try hockey “to have a go”. This competition is an opportunity to have fun, improve skills and new players to try hockey. So if you have a family member, friend, school mate or neighbour wanting to try hockey, please tell them about Waverley Summer Stix.

Due to an increased number of players joining the competition in the past week, all Under-17 games from Week#2 onwards will be played from 9pm. Under-17 and Under-14 teams have been redistributed in order to add an extra two teams to each competition.

We have received a very good response for our Junior Summer Series to this date, and will still be taking further registrations through until the end of school holidays. Following this season fixtures will be created and team lists will be distributed to all players.

A number of junior players have also already indicated an interest in umpiring or coaching teams during the competition, and if any others wish to have a go please forward an expression of interest to juniorcommittee@waverleyhc.org.au ASAP.

Appently we can enter mixed, mens and womens teams.

Anyone interested in going ill put a message on mywhc and we’ll see if there is enough interest.

Attached are fixtures, team lists, and below is a reviewed copy of the local rules we will be using in the competition this season.

It is recommended that players arrive at least 15 minutes prior to game time each week, and report to the field allocated on their weekly fixture.
Coaches/Team Managers will be meeting players down next to allocated grounds, not in the club rooms.

Sticks will be made available for new players to use, however if you are a current player with a spare stick I encourage you to bring those along to share with new players that may be in your team. It is also very important that all players arrive with mouth guard and shin guards in hand each week in order to play.

Parents are also reminded that fees are due, so if you are still needing to pay we will be taking payments in the club rooms throughout the night.

For those players and parents unfamiliar with the local rules of this competition, the points below provide a brief outline.

v The field will be divided into 4 pitches, each pitch having sideboards.

v Games will consist of 2 x 20 minute halves with a 5 minute break between halves

v Teams are to have no more than 6 players on the field at any one time.

v Back swing is limited to 200mm on free hits, or on any other hit. The stick must be on the ground at all times. (Only pushing and restricted slapping is permitted)

v If the ball is played over the end line by ANY player (unintentionally), the award is a free push from anywhere inside the defensive circle to the defensive team. If the defence pushes the ball over the end line intentionally, the result is a penalty corner for the other team.

v Interchange can take place at any time.

v On a penalty corner only the keeper may be in the goals the other defenders must be behind the end line opposite the hitter.

v The ball may not be lifted EXCEPT on a shot at goal if not dangerous

v The ball may be played off of the sideboards.

v There will be no goalkeeper/kicking back on field in Under-11 competition.

The sessions will be divided into a 45 minute training session followed by a 45 minute game.

Coaching will be provided by Neil Brooks and Greg Ingram.

All weekday games are 2 x 25 min halves played at 7,8 & 9pm
The season runs for 10 weeks plus two weeks of finals. Games begin from Cup week in November, with a break over xmas.
