Women’s Coaching Workshop

Toni Cumpston and Andrew Steele will be holding a Coaches Workshop on Tuesday 21st of July at the Waverley Clubrooms, commencing at 7.00pm

The workshop is an open invitation for all current and potential coaches from all of the women’s divisions (seniors, juniors and minkey’s).

The topics to be covered by Toni will include: Systems, structures, positioning, designing and training drills.

2010 Junior Registration Day

The 2010 Junior Registration day is to be held on Saturday 6th February from 10am to 2pm at the Waverley Hockey Club ground, corner Winbirra Pde & High Street Road Ashwood. All current and new players in age groups from under 6 to under 17 are invited to the club to register for the coming winter season. Registering on this day is important as it allows the club to enter the correct amount of teams and make sure all players get a playing spot. The 2010 Winter Season will commence on April 16 & 17. Any enquiries can be made via the website contact form.

Summer Stix

Summer Stix kicked off last Friday Night with 198, yes read again 198, juniors turning out on the night. Great job by the junior organizing group to have the large numbers turn out with many not having played hockey before.

Summer Stix Back in 2008

Summer Stix is for current Juniors to play hockey during the “off” season and a chance for less experienced players or children who would like to try hockey “to have a go”. This competition is an opportunity to have fun, improve skills and new players to try hockey. So if you have a family member, friend, school mate or neighbour wanting to try hockey, please tell them about Waverley Summer Stix.

Players who register will be placed in a team of 8 in accordance with their age, we need players for the age groups stated below. Teams will play 15 minute halves on a one third of a normal ground size; indoor hockey rules apply, which includes no hitting. An attempt will be made to ensure that teams are evenly balanced with children of all standards with current players to assist/support new players.

Hockey Victoria is seeking nominations from men and women aged Under 16 and under 14 to trial for the State Indoor teams to attend the NAtional Championships in central NSW in JAnuary 2009

Junior State Championships News

Congratulations to all our junior players who have successfully trialled for the regional Southern Sharks team. They will now train twice weekly with their Sharks squad in preparation for the State Championships during Term#2 holidays.

Under 13 Girls: Arabella Hooper, Johanna Rogerson, Stephanie Affleck and Laura Anthony.

Under 13 Boys: Brayden Lyon and Damon Steffens

Under 14 Girls: Anique Muttiah and Sarah Oldfield*

Under 14 Boys: Riley Maddock, Ben Wilkinson and James Knee.

Under 15 Girls: Estelle Lopes, Brodie Pledge and Pip Peschke.

Junior Practice Matches – 4th April

The week before the junior season kicks off we will be holding a series of practice matches for our junior teams to play each other on Friday 4th April and Saturday 5th April.

Matches on Friday 4th night will be played against Southern United HC (fixture below)

Games at Waverley

6pm – Wav U-15 PS vs SUHC U-15 PS

7pm – Wav U-15A vs SUHC U-15A

8pm – Wav U-17 PS vs SUHC U-17 PS

9pm – Wav U-17A vs SUHC U-17A

Games at Southern United (Farm Rd, Cheltenham)

6pm – SUHC U-13PS vs Wav U-13PS

7pm – SUHC U-13A vs Wav U-13 A

8pm – SUHC U-15Girls A vs Wav U-15Girls A

9pm – SUHC U-17Girls A vs Wav U-17Girls A

Players will be notified of game they are to attend by their coach at practice during the coming week.

The Junior Unit will be holding their initial registration this Saturday (Feb 2nd ) at the ground in Winbirra Pde.

All returning players shoulf have received pre-registration forms in the mail. Forms can be returned on Saturday

A second registarion day is planned for March 1st
