Canteen Roster – From now!

Posted June 3rd 2009 by Travis Brooks No Comments

Please find below the Canteen Roster for the remainder of Season 2009. The Roster has been drawn up on a ‘convenience’ basis, ie. you play then stick around afterwards to help out. At least 2 people from each team are required, 1 person to man the bar and the other the canteen.

Only teams are stated for specific times, its up to each team to generate a roster around these times. Thanks in advance for helping out around the club. It’s not a huge commitment but one that is needed to ensure the club has success off the field as well as on.

Cheers Trav.

What a great night to celebrate 50 years of Waverley Hockey Club! It was great to have founding members Hedley Hull, Les Large, Kingsley Hull and Arthur Tuckett in attendance.

I would like to pass on special thanks to the following people whom contributed enormously over the last couple of months to make this such a fabulous night. Don Trewin for MC on the night, Roger Andrews for last minute printing deadlines, Beth Merkus for guidance and feedback to the Club Committee, Ian Hocking for the Club’s determination to pursue this event, Di Robbie & Antony Green for co-ordinating the Teams of the First 50, Sue-Anne Hocking for artwork, Drew Ashton for the presentations and especially the Organising Committee of Drew, Ant, Rach, Jess and Bronwyn for delivering a great night. – Brian Maddock

ps. Do you have any great photos of the night? Please forward to waverleyhc@live.com for inclusion in the Waverley Hockey Club 1959-2009 Signature Frame.

Waverley congratulates Emily Paton and Sheree Thompson on making and competing in the Under 21 Women’s Australian Championship this month.

The Championships were held in Sydney, NSW from the 14th until the 25th of April.

Victoria powered through into the semi-finals to be defeated by the narrowest of margins (1-0) by Tasmania who went on to win the Championships. In the following playoff they went on to beat Western Australia to place them 3rd in the tournament which is a outstanding result.

Emily even hit the score sheet with a goal!

Congratulations go to both girls who now come back to play a major part in the Women’s SL1 team.

Training

Posted January 8th 2009 by Rhys Eddy No Comments

Hi All -

Well last night we begun our campaign for season 2009 – and those that were there met out SL1 coach, Andrew Steele (Smokey).

Thank you for all of those who made the effore to come down last night, it was nice to see all the same smiling face and in particular nice to see some new faces down at the club. A special thank you to Stacia Joseph who came down to run the session, it was nice of you to offer us some encouraging words while we are slogging it out and you are standing and watching us!!! Ha ha :)

Smokey will not be there for the next week as he is venturing off into the sea on a sailing boat – doesn’t really sound like a lot of fun to me. But upon his return he is really looking forward to getting to know all of us…and please make him welcome in our true Waverley style!!! Good luck Smokey :)

For those of you that can make it on Saturday some of the girls will be meeting down at the club at 9am for a 30-40 min jog. If you cannot make it please ensure that you are going for a run on your own, Smokey has already made it very clear that one of his main priorities will be having fit players in his squad. So if you are aspiring to play SL1 this year, which you all should be then get running girls!!!

Next Wednesday 14th Jan we will be meeting at the club at 6.30pm – please be there on time so we can get going straight away. Those who are interested somr of us will be meeting at 6.15pm to do the Huntingdale Road run before, all welcome!

See you next Wednesday

Chook :)

Please note that the women’s unit will be beginning pre-season training on Wednesday 7th January at 6.30pm, meeting at the hockey club.

We will have a good variety of running, games, swimming and beach fun through out the sessions. Wednesday nights will be at varied locations around the Waverley area and Saturday mornings we will be branching out for a bit of change. Locations such as, the Tan, Albert Park, Brighton Beach, Thousand Steps and Carlton Gardens.

All welcome! Hope to see you there :)
